Blog posts and web pages sit side by side on the same site, so it is easy to treat them as the same kind of writing. They are not. Each has its own purpose, structure and lifespan, and the copy should be planned accordingly.
What a web page is for
A web page describes something permanent about your company: what you offer, who you are, how to get in touch. Visitors arrive with a task in mind and scan for the answer. Good page copy is short, direct and built around a clear next step.
- It leads with what the visitor gets.
- It uses headings that make sense on their own.
- It ends with one obvious action.
What a blog post is for
A blog post explores one topic in more depth. It answers a question, explains a process or shares a point of view. Readers give it more time, so there is room for examples and detail, and each new post gives people another way to find your site.
- It focuses on a single question or idea.
- It can be longer, as long as every section earns its place.
- It links back to the pages that describe your services.
How to decide
Ask whether the content describes your company or helps your reader with a topic. If it describes your company, it belongs on a page. If it helps with a topic, it belongs on the blog. Many projects need both: pages to explain the offer and posts to bring in readers who are still researching.
We write both. Web Copy covers the pages of your site, and Blog Writing covers articles.
